Grief does not follow a schedule. It shows up differently for everyone. Some people feel completely numb. Others feel angry, exhausted, or disconnected from everything around them. If you are struggling with loss right now, that is not a weakness. That is grief, and it deserves real support.
At Healing Helps Therapy in Glen Ellyn, IL, we work with people who are carrying loss in all the ways it actually shows up. You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. You just need to be ready to take one small step toward feeling better.
Grief Is a Process, and Therapy Helps You Move Through It
Losing something or someone important changes how you see everything. The pain does not just go away on its own. Therapy gives you a structured, safe space to process what you are carrying. It helps you understand your grief instead of just surviving it, and that understanding is what allows real healing to begin.
Working through grief in therapy is not about rushing toward feeling better. It is about moving at a pace that actually works for you. Every person’s experience is different. What matters is that you have consistent, caring support beside you while you find your way through it.
What Grief Actually Looks Like
Most people expect grief to look like sadness. It is often much more than that. Grief shows up as exhaustion, guilt, anger, and a deep loss of meaning. You might feel fine one hour and completely hollow the next. These experiences are all normal, and they are all worth talking about in a safe space.
We work with people grieving the loss of a loved one, but also those going through major life transitions and identity shifts. Loss does not always come with a clear explanation. If something significant has changed and you are struggling to move forward, that is enough reason to reach out for support.
How Therapy Actually Helps
Sessions with Waseem Khalaf, MA, LCPC, are one-on-one and built around what you are actually going through. He uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, trauma-informed care, and solution-focused approaches. These methods help you understand how loss is shaping your thoughts and identify what is keeping you stuck in the pain.
Many people come in worried that healing means forgetting the person or thing they lost. It does not work that way. The goal is to help you carry grief in a way that does not stop your life. You build practical tools, develop healthier coping patterns, and slowly reconnect with meaning and purpose again.
Care That Respects Your Background
How we grieve is shaped by where we come from and what we believe. Cultural expectations, family traditions, and personal values all play a role in how loss feels. Waseem’s approach is culturally responsive and affirming. Your background is part of the conversation here, not something you are asked to set aside.
This matters because grief looks different across communities and cultures. A space that honors who you are makes it easier to open up honestly. You do not have to translate your experience or explain your values before getting support. You can simply show up as you are and begin from there.
